My students need informational texts and other Common Core learning materials in order for me to successfully integrate Common Core standards into their school day.
Bridging the gap between our existing curriculum and common core standards may seem like a daunting task, but if students are supplied with engaging and motivational hands-on learning instruments, such as an array of varied reading materials, the task becomes much more attainable.
I teach language arts to 50 students in a rural, public, fourth grade classroom.
Since this in an inclusion setting, I have a classroom of varying skill levels. The majority of my students are above average achievers and require a curriculum that engages and challenges them. A few students are underachievers that benefit from a curriculum that holds their interest and keeps them motivated. At the same time, a few of the students are special education students that are included in the regular education classroom, which means I must make sure I have materials for their skill level and reading ability. Accommodating the spectrum of needs can be difficult at times, but is necessary to ensure all a successful educational experience.
My Project
I am requesting an informational text common core teaching kit, at my desk vocabulary activities kit, wipe off markers, wipe off protector sheets, and a shelf for storage. I plan to use the shelf and kits to create a common core learning center. These kits contain all the materials needed to give students hands-on learning experiences with biographies, newspaper articles, magazine articles, and more. Both kits come with extensive teacher guides to help me with lesson planning and are completely aligned with the Common Core teaching standards.
The kits contain skill building and comprehension lessons built around informational text from magazines, newspapers, biographies, and other informational text. These kits will save me time and effort since the lesson are created and already aligned with Common Core. This gives me more time to spend teaching. The wipe off markers and wipe off protector sheets will extend the life of the materials and allow for easy sharing between students.
This product would complete our bridge to common core.
Add these materials and exciting activities to the hard work and dedication already put towards implementing, introducing, and integrating common core with our existing curriculum, and we will have made strides to close the gap between the two curricula. In addition, students will reap the benefits of having a new and exciting reading center to draw them in to the interesting world of informational text!
