Do you remember your first year of school? It was magical and full of wonderful memories. Could you ever have imagined being told you couldn't go for a third of the year? Well like students all over the country, my students are no longer allowed to walk through the door of our room and are craving time with friends and me.
As a Title I school my students have diverse needs at school, home and in their learning and this is where you come to the rescue!
The range of learning needs is great within our class. Some students have IEP and are working on remembering all of the letters in their names, while some are reading at a third grade level. Some come from families that are struggling financially especially during this uncertain time. Others just moved to the US are learning English. The behavioral needs are also a great concern and I see this as a great positive reinforcement incentive. We are currently providing quality distant learning opportunities, but those with the greatest need seem to be falling even further behind. Thanks for helping meet the needs of all students when we are finally reunited!
My Project
Osmo is an incredible learning tool which uses the iPad to allow students to create memorable learning moments with their hands and the manipulatives provided.
With the touch of a button, Osmo brings their learning off the mat and to life and creates a sense of pride and joy in each student that uses it!
By having different leveled Osmo packs, students will be able to have tailored independent learning targets for the skills they are working on while I run guided reading and math groups. The beauty of Osmo is that student learn through play! Students work on math concepts by learning to build numbers and or equations with their hands, solve real world problems and learn to code. Reading and literacy seems like a game with Osmo, as it supports students by helping them learn their letter names and sounds, how to build words starting with cvc words and progressing to more challenging magic e, vowel team and multisyllabic words without them even realizing they are learning. Students are able to be challenged by applying their problem solving skills to solving tangram puzzles, working of physics problems, working at a pizza parlor and so much more! Help my students enjoy learning while meeting their unique needs.
