There are eight brilliant young minds in my classroom. I teach in a K-5 Specialized Adapted Curriculum (SAC) classroom where we love to learn. We have a wide range of abilities that include Autism and Specific Learning Disabilities, all of whom thrive in a sensory-rich environment. All of my students need ample opportunities to engage in different social interactions with adults and non-disabled peers. The more practice they receive with social skills, the more successful they will be as they progress and maintain independence.
My Project
The use of a coffee cart would increase the number of opportunities our students would have to create a social interaction with adults and non-disabled peers throughout the school. Our students and their peer buddies would learn how to operate the cart, how to exchange money and give the correct change to the customer, and obtain confidence within themselves to engage in social conversations.
