This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our secondary campus is transformational in many ways. For the span of 30- 45 days, we introduce scholars to strategies for effective self-management and personal responsibility, with the goal of helping to “build better school communities” through our work with the young people in our care.

While scholars are referred to our campus from their home schools for various disciplinary infractions, we receive them with open minds and believe the best for them.

Supporting my project will help me to introduce behaviorally challenged scholars to a new way of looking at the world and themselves.

My Project

When we think of social-emotional learning, we often think of the visible signs of student support- popular practices like restorative circles and journaling. However, my disciplinary alternative campus community is in need something less tangible, but still very important: aromatherapy.

The aim of this project is to equip as many learning and common spaces as possible with essential oil diffusers so that we are able to help our scholars center and focus throughout the school day.

Supporting children with high emotional needs can be challenging, so this project will also benefit the adults on campus. We also need the numerous benefits that aromatherapy provides during the course of the day.
