Mrs. Randle from Arlington TX is requesting professional development through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
I need to create a robust, dynamic classroom SEL toolbox with training through Breathe for Change.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am requesting funds to attend a Breathe for Change conference. This training is based on using mindfulness, wellness and social-emotional learning practices to increase student confidence and performance, especially for those who have experienced trauma. We know all too well the stress and anxiety our students are experiencing since the Pandemic. As a special education teacher of students with Autism, I am trained to recognized that behavior is a form of communication for all students. However, it is especially challenging for students with disabilities and developmental delays. Social Emotional Learning is now a critical component of classroom learning in helping our students become and remain resilient learners. By incorporating daily SEL instruction into the classroom schedule, you can help students develop new ways to cope and self-regulate. It is not that our students do not desire better behavior, they just lack the necessary skills to help them understand their behaviors related to trauma and developmental delays.
My students and my teaching peers will directly benefit from me participating in the Breathe for Change training because I will create a robust and dynamic SEL Toolbox to help them with developing trauma-informed practices that promote mindfulness, positivity and safety in our school community.
In a trauma-informed community, our students, despite disabilities or developmental delays will have equal opportunities to learn. I will be able to design activities that best support the learning of each student in my classroom using the information I learn.
The knowledge that I learn from this training will allow me to help countless learners by providing them with individualized instruction suited just for them. It will also help me reach countless educators to help them with tools to decrease teacher stress, which leads to increased daily positive energy in the classroom. Thank you in advance!
