My school library serves a new school student population of about 470 students, grades Pre-K-5th grade in a growing suburban area. As is the case in most schools, we have a wide variety of learning styles within our student population. We are a very diverse community, and we are all still reeling from Covid's effects. Some of our students were virtual learners all last year, and this year are reacclimating to working back in person. Communication skills between peers and tending to social emotional needs of our students has become a great need.
My Project
Breathe For Change exists to enhance the health and well-being of educators, students, and entire communities. In the 200-hour Wellness, SEL, and Yoga Teacher Training, educators learn to use mindfulness, yoga, and social-emotional learning as a vehicle for healing and social change in their classrooms and communities. The training is aligned to CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning) standards in order to equip educators to integrate wellness and SEL practices directly into their teaching.
Through this comprehensive training, I will have become equipped to teach inclusive and trauma-informed yoga classes to adults and young people, as well as design and facilitate wellness and social-emotional learning practices, workshops and professional development programs for schools, districts, and organizations.
I am interested in helping the wide strata of our population: our dyslexic students, our special ed students, our general ed students, and our G/T learners. This training will equip me to better communicate with students through focused lessons designed to address social emotional skills through various techniques.
Upon completion of this training, I will receive the B4C Social-Emotional Learning Facilitator (SEL*F) Certification and 200-hour Yoga Teacher Certification (CYT-200), recognized by Yoga Alliance, the international yoga teacher certifying body.
