Breathe for Change: Social Emotional Learning, Mindfulness, and Yoga
I need funding to cover my tuition for Breathe For Change - a professional development opportunity which will help me improve the social-emotional wellness of my students through mindfulness and yoga.
I am a school psychologist in a small district in Florida. The brightest part of my job is working in a separate day school for students with significant special needs and unique challenges. In addition to approximately 66% being economically disadvantaged, many students struggle with one or more behavioral, social-emotional, intellectual, or medical challenges. We have good days and not so good days, but every day our staff shows up ready to meet our students where they are.
This school has a special place in my heart for more reasons than just the students.
The staff is an amazing group of selfless individuals who pour their hearts and souls into these kids every day. The people at my school are more than just students, teachers, support staff, and professionals. They are a family.
My Project
I need funding to participate in Breathe For Change. an important professional development opportunity that will certify me to teach inclusive, trauma-informed yoga classes to both adults and young people, and lead social-emotional learning and wellness experiences in my school, district, and community.
Upon graduation, I will receive my 200 hour yoga certification with specialty training in working with children and other educators, as well as a B4C Social-Emotional Learning Facilitator (SEL*F) certification, which qualifies me to lead SEL, mindfulness, and wellness workshops and programs for young people and adults.
