Ms. LATORRE from Brooklyn NY is requesting professional development through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
I need tuition for the Breathe for Change professional development to bring mindfulness, gratitude, and yoga to my school.

I am a special education teacher in Brownsville, NY. EBCHS is a transfer school where students have come from other high schools and transferred in hopes of a fresh start. Many students in my classes will lose out on instructional time because they are frustrated and don't know how to cope with their feelings. In some cases, students end up getting suspended in situations that could have been avoided. I feel it is important to connect with students outside of the classroom which is why I am proposing that I implement a Breathe for Change program at my school. I also feel it is particularly important for students with special needs to participate in this program because it helps teach mindfulness and coping strategies for stress.
Yoga has been instrumental in my own life in managing stress and maintaining my physical well being. I want to participate in the Breathe for Change program. During the Breathe For Change 200-hr yoga teacher training, I will learn strategies to use yoga, mindfulness and Social-Emotional Learning as vehicles for social change in school. Wellness and mindfulness practices will have a significant positive impact on students in my school community. Participating in the Breathe for Change professional development training would allow me to bring a yoga program to my school. In addition, I would use the meditation and stress coping methods of my everyday teaching of students with special needs.
