Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are smart, motivated, enthusiastic, compassionate, eager, artistic, energetic, and the shapers and leaders of our beautiful future! Over 80% of the 1,600 students at our Title 1 school are on free or reduced lunch. 6th graders can have never ending curiosity and enthusiasm. They can be incredibly thoughtful and kind with one another. And, at times, with today's modern pressures, they can be stressed out. Stress, for my students, comes in many forms.
Whatever the source of the stress, all educators and students can benefit from the positive methods and techniques of the SEL & Breathe For Change 200-hour Yoga and Wellness Training.
Together, with positive intentions, we will all be able to make strides towards a better tomorrow and breathe for change.
My Project
The 200-hour Social Emotional Learning, Wellness, and Yoga certification course offered by 'Breathe For Change' will enable me to become a certified yoga instructor and qualified to lead wellness classes for my students and school community. The Breathe For Change community describes their course as 'life changing' and 'providing such necessary tools that (I wish I) had taken the course decades ago!' Students are in great need when it comes to daily mindful practices - they rush from class to class, have 6-8 different teachers with large amounts of homework daily, and just plain have to deal with the hormonal imbalances of being a teen!
This professional development course will continue to foster my growth as a classroom teacher while providing me with further tools to meet my students' critical SEL needs.
I know that I can bring my new learning back to my students and school community as I 'Breath for Change, & Change Our Mindsets'.
