My Students

Seeing students comfortable in my classroom and excited about learning has been the greatest gift since joining Donors Choose. We are a rural, low-income school district surrounded by farmland, which many students live and work on.

Many of my students are tactile or kinesthetic learners who enjoy being able to get out of their desks, move around, work with their hands, experiment, and create things.

My students have a broad spectrum of abilities and learning styles, including a unique group of learners with special needs who often require modified instruction to achieve success in our science class. COVID-19 has changed the way in which students and teachers are able to interact in a classroom. I'm having to think outside of the box to help my students thrive in this new learning environment. Students and staff feel more stress than ever with the new challenges related to face-to-face instruction during a global pandemic.

My Project

Think back to high school Biology and you may remember how that dissection smell lingered for weeks. Now imagine that same smell in lab with no windows, no air conditioning, and poor ventilation. Throw in a global pandemic and you can imagine the stress my students feel when entering our hot, stuffy classroom. My students often complain about the smell in the room and other dreary conditions due to the lack of windows and air conditioning. I also have students with allergies and other special needs who are more susceptible to headaches and stress from the surroundings. Now, more than ever, having clean air to breathe is vital to a healthy learning environment.

This project will allow me to make the learning environment more comfortable and safe for all students.

As we return to in-person instruction during a global pandemic, I would like to help my students breathe a little easier through the use of these air purifier units. These air purifiers will also help make the air healthier for those suffering from allergies and less smelly following science labs. It will help us to clear the air and put the focus back on learning.
