Help me give my students a space to relax from rough moments in life with coloring books and colored pencils, an essential oil diffuser, CD player, and more.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our middle school is located in a rural county area. Our middle school is a Title I school with limited resources. More than 60 percent of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. The area is basically farmland and manufacturing. Most of our parents work in poultry or on a farm. Many of our students are sheltered from the real world. So many of our students have never been out of the state of South Carolina. Our student population total is 512. Out of the 512 students, 401 students receive free lunch and 29 students receive reduced-price lunch.
My Project
In today's world, more and more students are being frustrated with the challenges of life. Sometimes this becomes overwhelming for them to bear. Many students become depressed and think that suicide is the answer.
Sometimes all they need is a safe place to relax and regroup.
That safe place can be a corner in an office or a corner in a classroom. Often times my students feel the full pressures of life and they allow those pressures to weigh them down. That is why it is important for me to create and have a place for my students to "Breathe and Relax."
While visiting The Breathe and Relax Corner, students need to have items that can calm and relax them. The items that are being requested are items that can be used by students in the Breathe and Relax Corner in my classroom and office. If students can just have a moment away from their rough moments in life, students will be more ready to put their puzzle pieces of life back together. If we are to help the whole child, then teaching them how to deal with the rough patches in life is part of helping the whole child.
