Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
5th-grade students at our school are excited to learn and come to school every day ready to do their best. Unfortunately, because we are a low-income Title 1 school these students do not always have the materials and support that they need to be successful in the school setting.
Even though these students do not always have the best resources, they are never heard complaining, instead, it is much more common to hear them cheering each other on with kind words and reminding each other just how special and capable they are!
My Project
My students need multiple copies of novels to consume and enjoy. We are using the Lucy Calkins reading units to deepen our understanding of reading and analyzing. We have been focusing on themes, morals and lessons.
Themes teach us who we can be, these novels can help us to reach our full potential.
Through these wonderful units of study, students have developed stamina and a genuine love for reading. We are now working on using books as our guide in life, our escape from the horrors that can be the world that we live in, and the enjoyment needed to be happy!
