My students come from many different backgrounds and cultures. These students have such a desire to learn and achieve, we just have to harness that zeal in the correct direction.
Full of spirit, eager, and energetic personalities fill my classroom.
They are a particularly difficult group to keep on task as they need to move often to keep their mind focused. We do many varieties of hands-on learning activities both indoors and out to accommodate this need and make learning a full experience. Any way to help provide effective ways to engage the mind and body is always my goal in learning.
My Project
It is necessary as a teacher to continually assess student knowledge and ability as I teach various topics throughout the year. It is also imperative to teach them to think critically about these topics, not just memorize information. However, assessments don't have to look like standard tests anymore.
Using Breakout boxes to assess student learning accomplishes much more than any standardized test can.
It allows students to show base knowledge, but also pushes them to think critically, problem solve, persevere, and learn teamwork skills to accomplish the task. Moreover, it provides an immediate sense of accomplishment and success as they open locks along the way. We appreciate any support to make our classroom a more innovative, engaging, and educational place to be.
My students need materials for Breakout boxes, like various locks, boxes, and black lights to enable me to create and implement more breakout box assessments in place of a standard assessment. It allows students to see a challenge and rise to it, instead of see a test and become discouraged.
