Welcome to our Reading Cafe! Reading is exciting! That's what all my students say as they leave my class. In my urban school district the students struggle to master reading skills of comprehension (understanding the text) and decoding (sounding out large words). I try as creatively as possible to acquire as many resources as possible to assist my students to close their learning gaps and deficits and get them reading on grade level. All of my students are reading several grades below 6th grade. Some students go from reluctant readers to avid readers. It is very gratifying for me to watch their growth take off. Success is the only option.
Have you ever attended one of those mystery rooms? They are filled with excitement, mystery, problem solving and teamwork! With this idea in mind our classroom would like to have Breakout Edu boxes in order to solve mysteries about our reading and ELA topics. Students will work together and develop a sense of community while trying to unlock the mystery. Learning will be exciting!
As we kick off new units of study or while in a unit of study we will be able to pull these boxes and allow students to have a break from their ordinary learning while reviewing or learning a new topic.
This project helps students develop their STEM skills in order to be prepared for the 21st century skills.
