Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school district serves a huge Latino population in the Indianapolis area. Most of my students are from low-income families. Every year we welcome new immigrant families to our district, mainly from Central America. The school has a Spanish Immersion Program with a component of biliteracy (English-Spanish) where students of different ethnicities collaborate in the acquisition of a second language.
Many of my American born students are learning Spanish while all my Latino students are learning English.
Our school has a one-to-one device-to-student program, and the students are well-trained in the use of that equipment.
My Project
Breakout EDU games are called "breakouts." The breakouts teach teamwork, problem-solving, critical thinking, and troubleshooting by presenting participants with challenges that ignite their natural drive to problem-solve.
Breakouts can be used to teach core academic subjects including math, science, history, language arts and have embedded standards that apply problem solving strategies within a real world or collaborative context.
The Breakout EDU box will allow our students the opportunities to learn and refine these skills in a relaxed, fun environment. I would like two Breakout EDU kits in order to transfer the ownership of learning to the students as they collaborate.
