I teach 7th grade math in an inner city school district with students of various backgrounds, most of which come from low-income families. Many students I work with come from other countries who speak languages other than English and students who require extra supports in the classroom.
While my students are all very different, they are all creative, persistent, and capable in the classroom.
To help my students succeed, I am creating a classroom environment to fit their needs and personalize the content based on each individual’s level. My goal is to teach my students 7th grade mathematics, but also skills they will need to be college and career ready. Through inquiry and collaboration my students will begin to prepare themselves for 8th grade, high school, and beyond.
My Project
Breakout EDU is a way to bring the escape room craze into the classroom to promote problem-solving skills and collaboration. Breakout EDU can be used in a variety of subjects and motivates students to use their content knowledge to answer questions, solve puzzles, and work collaboratively.
The access to the Breakout EDU materials will engage my students in their learning to work together toward a common goal.
Each kit includes a large box and a small box as well as various locks, a UV flashlight, and a flash drive for in-depth puzzle and problem solving. The platform access codes included with the kit allow me to access pre-made Breakout Lessons and resources to help develop my own.
