Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My bright readers walk into my room ready to learn and absorb all they can from our books and reading community. They are nearly all from low-income homes; for them access to resources you may have had growing up isn't always possible. That is what this project is about.
As readers, we're working to build an authentic love of reading.
We work on being matchmakers for ourselves and others; we know all we've got to do is find the right kind of book for us.
Given the right resources, the right environment, and the right amount of warm/strict, we are successful. We work hard and play hard to close the gap between our beginning of fifth grade reading level and end of year reading level. We usually advance at least a year and a half or more in nine months. We're intelligent, curious, brave and precocious young people who want to be successful readers.
My Project
Having breakout boxes to use in our 6th grade English Language Arts Department is an AMAZING opportunity to have students practice for mastery in a way that is engaging and fun! Styled after adult escape-rooms, students solve puzzles, answer questions and put together clues to reveal the various lock codes. Once every lock has been undone, students can open the box and win the game! This kit is completely customizable, so it can be used for any topic, by any teacher and at any level of proficiency. Help us bring the fun "break out" into our classrooms at Greiner, and please consider donating today!
