My Students

My students span the entire state of Utah and receive their schooling in an online environment. We are a public charter high school, and the students we enroll come from all different walks of life.

All students choose our school to have flexibility in their schooling; they may be pursuing their athletic or artistic dreams or simply looking for a structured homeschooling environment.

Regardless, they choose to come to our school to meet needs that their local public school can not meet. My students are creative, innovative, and independent.

As an art teacher, I want my students to be able to experience fine art in a way that equals or exceeds the instruction they would receive at their local high school.

My Project

As an online art and photography teacher, I am limited in my instruction to whatever camera the students have available to them at home. Most often, this is their cell phone; they need an actual DSLR camera to be able to truly understand the art of photography.

My students will use the camera at monthly school outings where I will teach them to us it to make artistic decisions about their photography; they will also use it to capture yearbook pictures to aid in building our school culture.

With the camera, I would also create a photography club, where we would meet at different parks throughout the state to to learn and practice taking pictures in manual mode.
