The purpose of submitting this proposal is to get a class set of books for my kids. I am a middle school Spanish teacher, and resources for my class are few and far between. I am requesting the books because I would like to teach my rising eighth graders Hispanic culture through a novel. The novel that I am speaking of is called "The Circuit" by Francisco Jimenez. Reading this novel would be such a great experience for my kids. The novel tells the story of young boy born to the parents of migrant workers, depicting their journey to America and the hardships they face once they get here. The story teaches the lesson of hard work, determination, and perseverance. Reading this book would be an eye opening experience for my students and would provide them a new understanding of cultural diversity. It would also teach them about prejudice and tolerance. This novel is based on the author's own experience as a child. Teaching this novel, I feel, would have such a positive influence on my kids lives.
