This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I currently teach 5th grade students in an inner-city school. My students are a wonderful group of 10 and 11 year olds, who all receive free breakfast, lunch, and snacks. My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and ethnicity, and each has their own set of needs.
I absolutely love building relationships and developing connections with my students through learning.
I love to encourage their love for math utilizing modern technology to keep them interested and actively engaged.
My Project
We will use the Breakout EDU boxes to learn different mathematical skills and collaborate in an engaging, hands-on way! It's so fun to follow clues and try to solve problems together! Everyone loves a mystery!
For many students, math can be viewed as unrewarding; however, these escape boxes will provide an immediate extrinsic reward for students' hard work!
Many of my students are reluctant learners who will value the opportunity to engage in learning differently! School often looks the same for them: Every day requires them to sit and perform. I want them to know that they can be themselves and have some fun! We will work together to learn and grow using breakout boxes. Let's escape the dull conventions of the typical classroom and BREAKOUT!
