Teaching at a language immersion school is a great adventure! My 4th graders are an exciting group of students with mixed interests, varied abilities, and dynamic personalities. Some of my students are learning Spanish and others are engrossed in all things French.
In our ELA and Social Studies classes, we build a community around what we have in common and the shared experiences that we encounter throughout the year.
Our school embraces diversity and celebrates culture. In my classroom we celebrate in a big way. Birthdays are adorned by hats and streamers and achieving a goal is given its own cheer. We celebrate the little achievements and the big successes.
My students have come to expect the unexpected in our classroom. Whether it is using blacklights and glowsticks to create an engaging environment for literacy or inviting in a "guest" teacher to talk about new books in our classroom, students expect engagement.
The locks and toolboxes we are asking for will help us to create a breakout experience around our content area that will force kids to get up and engage in the lesson.
Students will engage in physical tasks that require them to use critical thinking skills to break codes to meet a challenge - all while the clock is ticking.
