This year I have a class of 32 students, but still work with groups of other students during our Enrichment and Intervention time. They come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences but share the same goals and basic needs. My classroom just this year has students that come from English, Spanish, and Russian speaking homes. However, we represent a wide variety of socioeconomic, cultural, and educated backgrounds.
Every student that has walked into my classroom has their own unique gifts and challenges.
They are each amazing young people with the potential to do great things! Some have special learning needs, some are learning the English language, and some have families that are working hard to meet basic needs. I want to make sure that each child gets what they require in my classroom so that I can support them to be the most successful they can be.
My Project
Students in my classroom are busy thinkers, but their bodies are busy too. With bouncy bands on their chairs, my most active students will be able to move without disturbing their learning (or the learning of others around them). This helps them to stay more focused and get further.
My students are looking to apply their learning to real life situations and find meaning in what they are studying.
Breakout EDU allows me to create escape room type situations to have them apply math, science, social studies, health or language arts concepts in a game form. This allows students to take their learning and use it across domains, letting them more deeply understand and apply those ideas in tangible situations. When the clock is ticking they have to dig deep to learn real life skills as well like teamwork, persistence, and problem solving.
