I have taught in Arleta, CA for eighteen years. Our school is a Title I school composed of a highly, economically, disadvantaged, student population. Despite various hardships, my students are still eager to learn and try their best.
I have a lively group of students with an eagerness to learn.
They are very creative, smart, and insightful. I have been successful in engaging my learners through games, projects, engaging reads, and an enthusiasm for teaching and learning. My students are excited to learn new ideas. They love to challenge themselves and ask questions. "Longing to learn independently" is a phrase I would use to describe my fifth-grade students.
Do you remember the excitement when you were in fifth grade, and your teacher printed out your writing in black and white? Well, it is still a big deal; however, times have changed. Now the only way to get that wow factor would be if I could actually print my students work. My students need more opportunities to experience their work in print. Providing my students access to a printer will open up a whole new world for them creatively. They are producing fantastic digital presentations, creating research reports, documents, science papers, charts, and graphs. Their animation on the computer would typically be print in black and white if we had a printer. It would be spectacular for them to be able to publish their projects.
