Help me give my students these EDU Breakout boxes as well as these math books to incorporate literacy with real world math problems and engaging STEM activities.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a Title I, ethnically diverse school in southeast Louisiana. Our students are mostly from a low socio-economic background and receive free breakfast and lunch. Hurricane Katrina has greatly affected our community.
Regardless of their home lives and background, my students walk into the classroom every morning full of life and ready for a day of learning.
My goal for my students is that each and every one of them will be a productive member of our community. They have so much to offer, each one having a unique and special story to tell. I can see their eyes light up as they are learning and soaking up new information. I'm so blessed that I can play a small part in their journey to success.
My Project
These Breakout boxes include everything we need to plan hundreds of breakout learning games include STEM activities. These are sure to captivate the attention of every child. The students will solve real world math problems as they work through a series of engaging tasks only to be given a clue or code to the next task.
Students and teachers are able to design their own content-aligned STEM games as each task will include a skill specific activity embedded in a real world problem.
The high interest math books build literacy and skill-based content knowledge using real world connections. These books will be part of the math tasks.
All students will be engaged as they complete each task just to move on to the next challenge. These boxes are a fantastic addition to our instruction and keeps the fun in learning aside from their regular everyday lessons. The possibilities are endless.
