My Students
My school has a high number of students who are high poverty, ESOL, and Ell, and half of our team is Special Education. These adolescents are the unified sports team. This is their first experience to participate in organized sports. Coaches donate their time so that the students can have a positive sports program and lasting memories as well as health benefits.
Now the unified team can letter in a sport.
Spending time with peers through unified sports grows bond and friendships for life.
My Project
Community outings are a way to work on social skills and prepare these young athletes for a future of feeling like they belong in every situation. It is hot at these sporting events and a canopy, an ice chest and Gatorade will be life saver. We are going to practice bocce ball for an upcoming event.
Keeping our athletics together in the shade and keeping them hydrated is imperative in the Arizona sunshine.
We are building a program that empowers our students through sports. We have been competing in track and field and have had great success. We will be doing softball and bocce ball. Teaching athletics to be on time, show great sportsmanship and empathy for others helps them grow in leaders in the community.
