Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My third-grade students are energetic, creative, thoughtful, and overall an amazing group! They love hands-on, active projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions!
Our students come to school ready to succeed.
Some are first generation and want to make their parents proud. Our school is a Title I school, some of them come from low income households where every dollar earned is needed and there is very little extra to go around. The Covid-19 pandemic has left many literacy gaps for my students
My students are determined to succeed in a world turned upside down, and we want to help them.
My Project
“I didn’t eat breakfast.” “Is it almost lunch?” These phrases are heard almost daily. Sometimes students arrive too late for the school’s breakfast and then they have to wait until lunchtime. Even students who have breakfast sometimes need something as our lunch is the last of the day. The result, leaving many hungry long before the lunch bell rings for them.
I am requesting on the go breakfast options to promote punctuality and to hold my students until lunch.
Having breakfast and snack options in the classroom will promote greater student focus and overall achievement.
This will give students another option for breakfast. If they happen to be running late and will miss breakfast, they can come straight to class and choose an on-the-go option. This will help to deter them from making a stop at the store and arriving later. Likewise, snacks in the classroom can help satiate the hunger some students feel as they wait for lunch.
A breakfast bar or snack can make a difference in a child’s focus and performance for the day. Helping to fund this project will help keep the focus on learning. No child should be worried about food and together we can help make that a reality.
