My Students

My students are a fun group of rural kids who have somewhat limited access to different types of non-traditional extracurriculars. They are eager to take part in school-related activities and are hungry for new opportunities. I have a diverse group of students from all kinds of backgrounds.

My Project

These materials will help me start a 9th and 10th-grade extracurricular breakfast book club! We will meet in my classroom once a week before school, have breakfast, and chat about the books we are reading. Fostering a love of reading that is life-long is one of my top goals as a language arts teacher. This provides students a fun way to get into reading and learn how to discuss and make sense of (sometimes difficult) topics that the literature addresses. The club will be a safe space for conversation and a fun environment where students can connect with other students and be encouraged to read.
