My students are high school students studying both academics and a trade of their choice. Our school ensures both student academic success and career technical education mastery, as well as promotes enthusiasm for lifelong learning. My students come from different towns and different areas, thus they are very diverse. My kids come to school each day ready to work.
My students are intelligent and hardworking, but sometimes need help from us due to their situations.
In an effort to help students be more engaged, we first need to ensure their basic needs are met. All students should be able to come to school and learn rather than be worried about their basic needs!
My Project
My students need granola bars and a storage bin to keep the bars in! Help give my students granola bars to keep their bellies full in order to stay focused.
When kids are hungry, how can they focus?
Small snacks, like granola bars, will help keep them full and increase student engagement! My students seem hungry all the time! Perhaps it is due to their continuously growing teenage body, but most of it is due to the lack of resources at home. My students are disengaged because they are hungry. Often times their participation is lacking because they simply cannot focus on continuous belly growls. Students put their heads down, are disengaged and lack participation. Mornings are tough for students because they do not eat breakfast. Many times, their only meal is school lunch. With this, mornings often include students coming late to school and when they do come, they put their heads down and are disengaged because they are hungry. I would like to have granola bars on demand for all students to access. My goal is to place a storage bin filled with granola bars in my classroom so students can take a snack they are hungry. This will help to increase engagement and try to remove the hunger barrier so my students can truly showcase their knowledge, ability, and talents!
