There are eighty third-graders in my school. My classroom contains students with varying abilities, including students in basic skills, students with IEPs, English language learners, and students who perform above grade-level expectations. They are diverse in family backgrounds, ethnicities, religions, socioeconomic statuses, and many other factors.
"'Note that highly engaging environments often promote empowerment because they focus on student agency and ownership.
The moment you add student ownership to student engagement, you have empowerment." -John Spencer.
Our students are the future. It is essential to teach them in a way that they can flourish. We want to give them tools to support their experiences in school and enhance their learning opportunities. Our goal for our students is to make learning as engaging as possible to put their education into their hands. By making their school experiences meaningful, we are giving them lessons and memories they can carry with them throughout their lives.
My Project
This project would give my classroom two Breakout EDU kits and platform access. Breakout EDU provides a set of locking boxes, various multilocks (alphabet, directional, color wheels, shape wheels, number wheels), various locks (three-digit, four-digit, and keys), and additional supplies to liken the experience to an escape room.
Their website raves, "All Breakout EDU games require players to use critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication." Their platform gives access to pre-designed challenges related to math, science, social studies, language, team building, and more.
These immersive learning games will be fun, challenging ways for students to work on their educational skills.
