Hello! Working with students with a disability is a passion of mine since I was a little girl. Teaching students through any means possible is what needs to be done and is done on a daily basis. As part of the learning environment, breaks are taken to allow the student to unwind and refocus. Table tasks are given so the student can take a brain break in order to complete their work in 5-10 minutes. Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where he or she is! They are truly an incredible and amazing group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a group of students with the curiosity to learn and the willingness to keep learning. Reaching each student through their specific needs is why I am here and through you and your generosity you will be helping to reach each student!
My Project
With these materials the students will be able to calm down and have the supporting materials they need. Students with special needs always need a calm down period or a period where they can use their hands to explore and create things. In giving these students the hands on materials they need they will be better able to express themselves and show what they are thinking. Being non verbal students are unable to show what they know and how to express it in certain situations. I am hoping these students will thrive with the materials that will be provided for them.
