My K-1 classroom is home to 15 children that have a wide range of abilities and disabilities. However, this does not keep them from doing their BEST! The students come to school every day from a variety of backgrounds and socio-economic status but we all work hard and help each other.
A month ago our school faced a big challenge.
After a major winter defrost and inches of rain, our school was flooded with eight inches of water in every classroom. Our students were unable to attend school for five days. When we returned to school our classroom was housed in two local churches. The students were so excited to see each other, myself and to learn.
After being out of our building for three and a half weeks we are back at Nettie Davis. I have spent numerous hours getting the room clean and ready for the children. We have lost some material items, but our learning enthusiasm remains!

My students LOVE to READ!!
I love seeing their faces light up when we read a BIG BOOK. They think it is so cool to read the “big ones.” Currently, our big books are housed under a cabinet and the students only have a chance to use them with the help of an adult. I would like the students to be able to choose a big book and enjoy it by themselves.
This project will also give them the opportunity to find book with ease. Our books are housed in totes on a small shelf and some are just in piles. A book organizer would solve this problem. We need a big book easel and a book organizer to make it easier to find a GOOD BOOK!
