Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students walk into the band room everyday excited and ready to learn and advance music! My students are determined to be the number 1 band in the country. Every week we say it to get all of the students motivated to perform and play!

Our school's band population represents over 80 countries!

Many of my students use school-owned instruments which are all in much needed repair or are beyond the repairing and just need to be replaced. But my students continue to perform on these instruments and love it!

They are strong academic students and look to find balance through co-curricular course offerings such as music. They are young, vibrant personalities that enjoy attending school because of the many opportunities that are presented within.

My Project

The band at our school has taken off! Students are telling their friend and younger siblings that Band is a fun and great activity to be apart of! Unfortunately with more students comes a higher need for instruments and equipment. Our school is about 55% free and reduced lunch. So, about half of the students in the band can not afford their own instruments. With this instruments and mouthpieces alone it will help more students be able to participate in a worth while activity. I already have a couple of students signed up for the 2018-2019 school year whose parents have already said they can not afford the instrument, is there anything I can do. I would like to make it happens and give hem the chance to make music!
