Mrs. Zafiris from Mobile AL is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need books to help them master difficult phonetic skills and learn to read proficiently.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
As a teacher at a low-income and high poverty area, I notice my students are faced with both good and challenging situations. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. All the students at my school want a chance to enhance their learning and reach for the stars.
"It's not about what it is.
It's about what it can become."
Many of them are being raised in foster care, single-parent homes, or with a close relative. The demographics in the areas where they live are not conducive to acceptable learning. When my students walk in my door, I want them to identify their exceptional characteristics, develop positive self-esteem, and feel they are cherished. I want them to know that my classroom is a heartfelt, inspiring, and encouraging environment where creativity is encouraged through self-expression and imagination.
My students want to experience their learning using hands-on activities. When I provide an atmosphere of involvement, their learning increases tremendously. Your donation will help give us the materials to make great thinkers and make learning fun.
These books and letters will receive daily use in our kindergarten classroom. While I am providing small group instruction to students each day. I need to provide rigorous and effective workstations in which the other students will partake.
My students will greatly benefit from the books as a way to learn to read phonically and basic reading skills.
The books can be used for a variety of workstations -- and word spelling, sight word manipulation, and phonemic principle practice. The books will accompanying the white boards I have now and allow for pragmatic practice in recognizing and applying sight words in context. The four different levels will also allow for a greater range range of differentiation for all students.
