Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students are active learners.
When you walk in my classroom, you will see them sitting, standing, balancing on yoga balls and working together to solve problems.
I teach third Grade in a Title I school with a high population of English Language Learners (ELL).
I have a class of 24 students. Many of my students come to me below grade level due to situations outside their control. They are eager and excited learners who are always up to a new challenge. When students are given choices on where and how they work and encouraged to work together, they will be more successful.
My Project
My students need books that will help them transition from picture books to chapter books. The books need to help them fall in love with reading as well as feel successful as a reader.
The books in this project are designed to transition kids into chapter book readers by providing longer and more complex plot lines, while also including pictures to assist with student comprehension and vocabulary.
They will help students fall in love with books and become lifelong readers. My students will be reading these books daily and having discussions about them with partners.
These books are high interest and provide a lot of opportunity for discussion. The pencils in this project give the students a way to record their thinking to share it with others. Writing their thoughts daily will help increase my students’ comprehension skills.
The soft stools will provide the students with a comfortable place to read and write. The pencil sharpeners will ensure they always have working pencils. Students will be able to take mechanical pencils home to record their reading at home.
