Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am the librarian at a K-5 elementary school. We are a Title I school with approximately 400 students. Our students represent diverse backgrounds, cultures, families and academic abilities. I love getting to know each student by name and work to inspire each student wherever they are!
I am passionate about developing a love of reading within all my students!
I have worked to make our library a fun, bright and exciting place to be. When students come in to the library, their time with me is short but meaningful. I encourage and provide opportunities for working in partnerships, active engagement strategies and participating in inquiry based thinking and learning projects. I love to see the excitement on their faces when they learn something new, make a connection, or find the "perfect" book!
My Project
I am always looking for ways to foster the love of reading with the students at our school. We have many students who are newly independent readers, yet they are not quite ready for chapter books.
These books feature easy to read texts, simple plot lines, lots of context clues and lots of meaningful illustrations to support comprehension.
There are several series in the Branches line of books to appeal to a wide range of readers. They will encourage students to continue in their path to becoming great readers. These books are also great for parents to read to their children as well.
