My Students

I have a total of 17 students that I have the opportunity to impact daily. Watching children transition from hesitant to fearless readers is my passion!

My students are enthusiastic and energized second graders who come to my classroom everyday with an intense desire to learn new things!

I have found that these young minds are extremely motivated by new texts that are on their level!

In my class, I have a wide range of reading levels that I need to meet on a daily basis ranging from one or two grade levels BELOW second grade to one or two levels ABOVE second grade. Having limited books on each of these levels makes it extremely challenging to differentiate instruction and provide readers with texts that are instructional or "just right".

My Project

Branches books are a line of transitional chapter books that were created to grow readers. They are phenomenal at creating a love of chapter books in reluctant second graders.

So many times I've witnessed my students putting down a chapter book that visually grabbed their attention because they "can't read chapter books".

That couldn't be further from the truth! My students are capable, fabulous readers. They are ready to take off, but just need the right books in their hands.

These books grab their attention with the bright, engaging graphic design and characters that come to life. These also help give them the comfort of a picture book while still challenging them and growing their stamina which is required moving on from second grade.
