This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is comprised of 17 amazing students from a neighborhood in East Oakland. In their kindergarten year, their class was never assigned a permanent teacher and the class had around 6 different substitutes. This has caused the majority of the class to be very far behind for their grade level in Math, Reading, and even social skills. We also just gained two brand new students are English Language Learners and unfortunately cannot be enrolled in the bilingual first grade class because it is already over capacity. These students absolutely love to learn, especially during writer's workshop where their creativity blossoms. Many of these students don't have much and our district also is not able to supply what they need to succeed.

My Project

Brainpop is a fantastic, engaging, and interactive way to learn about a variety of subjects! Students can watch videos and play games to learn about new things. I wish to implement this most during Science. Science is at the very end of our day and while our goal is to go outside, experiment, and do hands-on learning, this is sometimes very difficult for my students to handle in a safe way. It is times like these where my students need a calming yet engaging way to learn about science or even other subjects! At many of the previous schools I have worked at, the district supplied a subscription to BrainPop and it was such an amazing tool to enhance learning.
