We are a school located near Tampa Bay in Florida with a high poverty rate. We serve 2,200 students! We are a performing arts, public charter school. I encourage, teach, and mentor my students through the arts.
Artsy people are unique and beautiful people to be near; they inspire others to do, think about, and become more than they already are.
I teach Earth and Space Science as well as an advanced reading/critical thinking class to middle school students. My students are eclectic and artistic. They are preteens and teens full of ambition and emotions. They are sensitive, smart, sweet, and talented. Many are very humorous, and some are insecure and looking for a safe place to just be themselves.
Most of my students ride the bus for long periods of time just to get here. Our school serves students breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Many students are at school from 9 am until long after 5 pm due to after-school activities provided to them. Our school is their home away from home.
My Project
My classes would love BrainPOP and Flocabulary! They are both on-line digital resources that offer a variety of educational benefits that can enhance learning through graphic cartoons and Hip-Hop music. BrainPOP provides access to multiple teaching videos, while Flocabulary offers educational hip-hop music that infuses humor and current trends.
Flocabulary transforms my science lessons into hip-hop tunes capturing attention immediately.
BrainPop offers animation that is funny, yet accurate and informative.
Learning from these online sites helps kids to meet state standards and prepares them for end of the year state assessments.
Please consider helping our classroom. I cannot afford access to these sites on my own and my school does not provide for online subscriptions. We could sure use a classroom hero to step in and provide a helping hand!
