This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work in a single gender school in the heart of Atlanta, and my students try very hard to become successful. The zip code I work in has very high crime and is poverty stricken; statistics say the students who live in this area won't be successful or make it to college.
My students are extra special because they beat the odds.
We follow different Manhood principles, so we teach them from 6th grade how to be responsible, respectful and ready for society.
My Project
Since the students in the schools I serve are in a low income community, they often don't have the basic needs like food, clothing and shelter. My students come to school hungry, and sometimes they are hungry again by the end of the day. The only time some of these kids eat is during lunch, or if the school offers free breakfast.
The granola bars, chips and juices will serve as Brain Fuel for my kids during the day when they get hungry and lunch has either not come, or passed.
They will be given the snacks as needed, and when they express that they're hungry.
