We are an energetic class of 48 3rd graders! We live and go to school in downtown Minneapolis, MN. We are all Latino, and 94% of our school qualifies for free and reduced-price lunch. These students are special because they speak two or three languages. They're environmental stewards, they're compassionate, and they're more than deserving of any donations! They work hard each and everyday.
Part of our goal is to embrace the Latino culture.
One way we can do that is by integrating pieces of our culture into our learning. It is very important to have a great education so that we can be role models to everyone, especially those of our culture.
My collaborating teacher, Stephanie, and I will be sharing 48 students this fall. Our students have a large break between their breakfast and lunch, and often get hungry between the two meals. Stephanie and I will be providing snacks each morning between breakfast and lunch. We’ve created this project to relieve some of the financial responsibility that comes with providing a daily snack for our students. Our school does not provide a snack for the students. Many of our students are unable to provide a snack from home. It’s hard to concentrate on school material when your tummy is growling. This daily, morning snack is intended to sustain our students between meals, so they can focus and be engaged in their learning.
