My students need to have access to food throughout the day whether it be breakfast items like Kellogg's because they came in late or a snack to get them to lunch.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is a Title I school where the entire school receives free lunch. This year I have 20 chatty third graders. My students are very active and creative.
These tiny humans are so incredible.
They all come from various economic backgrounds, many with a tough home life. No matter what's going on at home they will come in, shake it off and give me 100%. I want to give them every tool they can use to continue being successful.
My Project
Having snacks that include fruit snacks, crackers, cereal boxes and others in my classroom ensures that my students who come in late can have food in their bellies. It also means that they won't have rumbling tummies while we try to make it to our late lunch time, which I have trouble getting to some days!
Proper nutrition increases the blood flow to the brain which will help with their learning!
If I'm going to make sure these students have everything they need to succeed, that means making sure that their bellies are full before I teach. When we're hungry we don't want to learn or do much of anything so we can't expect our students to learn when they're hungry.
