Our students are struggling readers and writers who often do not view themselves as capable of reading and writing to set standards. These students have often given up on themselves as taking on the attribute of being a reader and/or being a writer. One hurdle that many of them face is the NYS ELA exam that takes place each Spring. Many students have anxiety over these exams and it gets in the way of their success.
Every single one of our students is a reader and every single one of my students is a writer; they just need the proper tools in order to show the world these skills.
By participating in our class, students work through their struggles and eventually begin to think, act, and create like readers and writers in the classroom. The collaborative nature of Literacy helps them to celebrate individual and class successes and also work through struggles together. Our students are capable and can achieve anything that they put their minds to, even raising their scores on the exams. Our students would benefit from tackling these tests without the worry of a grumbling stomach or hunger pains.
My Project
It's hard to focus on learning and school work when your stomach is growling. This is why we are requesting granola bars, cereal bars, other breakfast snacks, crackers, and water for our students. The NYS ELA exam is an important and often stressful exam for our students. We'd like to remove some of that stress by providing them with a snack before they set off on their work. Many of our students complain of hunger between breakfast and lunch and don't have the means to provide themselves with a healthy mid-morning snack.
These granola bars, cereal bars, breakfast snacks, crackers and water will help our students keep their bodies and brains fueled throughout New York State ELA Testing.
A nourished brain helps students focus and do their best on the test.
Thank you for helping our students fuel their bodies for their exams.
