This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is located in Lower East Side, New York. I teach a very inquisitive group of third-grade girls. My students know that the best learning happens when we share and learn from one another.
As black and Hispanic women, most from low-income households, our girls will undoubtedly face obstacles in life.
They are working hard to develop the skills and character traits needed to tackle these obstacles with confidence and grace.
Our classroom is known to be a place where students feel safe, make mistakes, have fun, laugh, take risks, foster friendships, read, create, and love learning!
My Project
While all of my students are given free or reduced-price lunch and breakfast at school, sometimes it is not enough to get them through the day without getting a little hungry. Students who are hungry are too focused on when they will be eating next to pay attention to the important things going on in the classroom. By allowing my students a snack time, not only will I be helping them stay more focused on their school work, but will also allow for a quick "brain break" in between activities. With your help, my students will have snacks to keep them nourished.
A healthy brain and a healthy body will help my scholars succeed.
Keeping focused in school is hard enough, without the added burden of hunger. Your support is vital.
