Help me give my students some alternative seating options and healthy snacks to help them calm their bodies, feed their brains and focus on their work.
Many hardships are faced by students with special needs and by students coming from low-income families and living in rural communities. My students face all three of these challenges. These students strive to do their personal best every day, even when it might be more challenging for them.
My classroom serves students with a variety of disabilities such as autism spectrum disorder, specific learning disabilities, ADHD, Rhett's syndrome, and emotional disturbance.
My school is located in a rural community, and many of my students' families are low income. This limits my students' opportunities in many ways.
My Project
Many of my students face challenges that limit their ability to focus on school tasks. Many of my students have disabilities such as ADHD and Autism which makes it difficult for them to sit still and focus, which is why sitting still is rarely a requirement in my classroom. For this to happen we need some specialty seating such as wobble stools and cushions and rolling chairs.
Along with the disabilities many of my students face, many of them also come from low income families.
The majority of our school qualifies for free and reduced lunch, because of this many times students come to school hungry. While they eat a good breakfast and lunch at school, that is not always enough to fill their tummies and when your stomach growls its hard to focus on your work. My students need a healthy snack to eat during the day.
