Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a middle school science teacher at a Title I middle school, I believe that my students deserve to experience learning science in innovative, creative ways. Many of my scholars have been effected by Harvey and engaging activities will help to inspire and motivate them.
Most of my students are classified as economically disadvantaged, yet they are eager to know what exciting activities they will experience in science class each day.
Although I do not have control over circumstances they may be experiencing outside of school, I know that I can make a difference by providing them with engaging, innovative, and real-world application and activities in my classroom each day.
My students come to my class with different science experiences and backgrounds, and many are faced with barriers such as learning disabilities, language barriers, or lack of experiences and exposure to engaging science investigations and the use of technology.
Regardless of these barriers, I am challenged with the responsibility of making sure each individual student receives the best learning experience so that they can be prepared for their next level of learning and their future career.
My Project
In order to increase student achievement, it is important that student engagement is increased. Most experts agree that there are specific strategies that might help engage our students' attention. The printer, paper, and sheet protectors will be used to provide resources to students of all learning abilities that are visually stimulating to the brain.
The brain likes and reacts to visuals and color, which results in memory enhancement.
The printer will allow me to print colored visual science vocabulary, manipulatives and station activities that will allow scholars to interact with and remember science concepts. Although my ESL and SPED scholars will surely benefit from having access to colored materials, I also believe that all of my scholars will have increased academic achievement.
The printer, paper and sheet protectors will also be available for scholars who need to work on class projects at school because of lack of resources at home. I want to make sure that all of my scholars have what they need, and not be worried because they cannot print their projects. In addition, I have some scholars who require special accommodations and need printed handouts of notes and activities and this project will allow me to provide scholars with those accommodations.
