My third grade "Adventure Seekers" are such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning to read, write, and count, while some of their classmates are learning to facilitate their own book club discussions and conduct team STEM projects. Our group loves to play outside, learn new games, and rock out to a sweet tune. We are constantly moving our bodies around to assist with our "wiggle fidgets" and share the "MAGIC OF MINDSET" philosophy!
In this class, we have become a community that celebrates one another's differences and respect each other's varying abilities.
We have one rule, "Always try YOUR best, and YOUR best is your best!"
My Project
The requested materials will provide each child their own copy of the selected "Who Was" series books for their literature circle based reading groups.
The "Who Was" series tells the incredible stories of trailblazers, legends, innovators, and creators.
This series of biographies is well written, filled with intriguing illustrations and perfectly sized short chapters. This series gives students a sense of love and understanding for history through classroom literature circle discussion groups.
Literature Circles is an effective literacy strategy that combines the principles of cooperative learning, independent reading and group discussion. The purpose of Literature Circles is to promote reading and to foster literary discussions through collaborative learning.
In fact, collaborative learning has been defined as a
key ingredient of “best educational practice” (Zemelman, Daniels,
and Hyde, 1993). Collaborative learning is open-ended and
student-centered. It fosters democracy, community, and shared
responsibility in the classroom. The limited size of the groups
compels each member to be an active participant and imbues each member with responsibility and investment.
