Our classroom is a place where each and every student is respected and appreciated. My priority is making my students feel safe to take risks, and know that their personal contribution to our classroom community is valued.
I believe that children learn best when provided with as much control over their own learning as possible.
This includes work spaces and seating, texts, topics, and more.
When students feel trusted and supported in making choices for themselves, they become more passionate, productive, and enthusiastic about learning. They see themselves as the driver of their learning and take pride in the work they do.
My Project
My students and I will be in the classroom full time wearing masks to start the school year. I am committed to making the most of a challenging circumstance, and know that successful student engagement will depend on allowing my students to move and have opportunities for brain breaks.
With short brain breaks and movement opportunities throughout the day, my second grade students will be better able to focus and be engaged during instruction and independent worktime.
The materials on my list offer a wide range of activities from bean bags to basketball, card games to puzzles, and more. We can also bring these items outside on a nice day if we choose.
With the added stress and responsibility of Covid regulations put on our young students such as washing hands more often, masking up in class, social distancing and more, they will need many opportunities to play, find joy, and be kids.
