My students are amazing and eager to learn. They are inquisitive and self-motivated. Most come from disadvantaged homes and communities but still come to school looking for something or someone to encourage their drive for success.
As individuals they are unique but as a group they are extraordinary.
Whether they work alone or together, they strive to do their best. The best description for my kids is that they are winners in every sense of the word. They are funny, smart, hard-working, and imaginative. Many work after school and still play sports. Though children, some are the financial support in their homes. They are determined to give their best and expect that of their teachers. I have high expectations for my kids and seldom do they not rise to the occasion.
Everyone knows that students can become stressed with the class load they carry. We expect a lot from our students and and sometimes they need to de-stress.
Our students work better when they have a few minutes to de-stress and laugh a little.
During a block class students are working for longer periods of time without the breaks they normally would have in a 45 minute class period.
A few minutes playing simple games, like building a tower of dice or who can match the most memory cards, can positively affect student performance. The one thing teachers want for their students is for them to reach their full potential and enjoy learning.
