Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a high poverty school, where 100% of the students receive free breakfast/lunch based on socioeconomic status. Many of my students are new to the country, being raised by a single parent or extended family. They face many difficult outside challenges far beyond their control.
I am reminded everyday of the possibilities that await them, in awe of their resilience and am deeply committed to setting a solid foundation for social, emotional and academic success by providing meaningful learning experiences.
My students are my world and although I cannot control their home lives, I can certainly provide them a safe, creative and engaging experience when they are with me.
My Project
Research has shown the positive relationship between hands on explorations and success in school. Everyone knows that learning happens naturally everyday as children explore, play, and try new things.
The engagement that comes when using 'Brain Boxes' is unavoidable!
When children have the opportunity to investigate during unstructured play, they learn, experiment, use rich language, and build social collaboration skills.
The items I have requested will fill boxes to be used during indoor recess, morning work, for early finishers and just for good ol'-fashioned fun. With your help we can fill boxes that will continue building our brains. Thank you!
