Brain-Based Classroom Redesign: Rio Gear My Pod Bleacher Seats
Help me give my students six Rio Gear My Pod Bleacher Seats, which encourage more active and alert students who are empowered by the opportunity to have choices about where they sit.
"We are here to learn!" That is our classroom motto because it covers every aspect of school success. We are a community where everyone teaches and everyone learns so that everyone wins.
My students are individuals who learn to believe in themselves through critical thinking and problem-solving.
They experience success and refine their ideas in a safe, supportive environment. Our charter school's mission is student-centered learning, and we pride ourselves on meeting students where they are. I teach the whole child with hands-on learning through real-life, self-directed, and relevant experiences. My students are members of our school's unique culture. They take pride in positively representing themselves, their families, their teachers, and our school community. They are caring and compassionate people who work hard for individual success, but also focus on personal integrity and responsibility. The tradition of developing better ways to teach children is at the heart of our school. We believe that children learn best in a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment. Our students thrive in a student-led, teacher-guided educational experience.
My Project
Rio Gear My Pod Bleacher Seats are four-position reclining seats with a backrest. They allow students to sit comfortably on the floor while they are working, but at the same time, they make it possible to move and release energy without the constraints of a traditional desk. This increases a child's ability to focus on what is important: learning. I want to replace the plastic, traditional student chairs in my classroom with a variety of seating options. Research supports redesigning classrooms to incorporate flexible seating and physical activity. Flexible seating in a classroom can change the environment from traditional to inviting. Students thrive in a classroom that gives them choice; having a variety of seating options for various moods and learning styles encourages creativity and increases engagement.
Motivation and engagement are the ultimate goals in the classroom.
Providing a comfortable environment in which to work is a simple way to communicate that students and their choices are important. look forward to encouraging students to make their own choices by creating an aesthetically appealing classroom with many options for seating.
